The Remnant: The Legend of the Seer

1. What type of books do you write?
I write fantasy/speculative fiction.

2. What is the latest book you have written?
Last year, I released my debut novel, The Remnant: The Legend of the Seer through Westbow Press, a self-publishing division of Thomas Nelson.

3. Is it part of a series, if so which one?
The Legend of the Seer is the first installment of The Remnant Series, which, at this point in time, will be a trilogy. However, depending on how the story develops, it could become a saga.

4 & 5. When and Why did you start writing?
I started writing The Legend of the Seer in 2003 when I was only 14-years-old. It started off as a screenplay that my sister and I were going to make into a film with our friends. However, as my sister group up and graduated, I was left with a story without fruition. Thus I began to turn the script into a novel. The process was long and tedious, but I strove to finish what my sister and I had started; I loved fantasy fiction and I was determined to have my story shared with others.

6. Who are your influences?
My writing was and continues to be heavily influence by Paolini, Tolkien and Lewis.

7. What can we expect from you in the near future?
What my fans and potential readers can expect from me in the future is a second installment in The Remnant Series and multiple parallel stories that take place within the world of Trinomia.
Further information can be found on my blog

A Tale of Two Brothers

1. What types of books do you write?
I have dabbled in many different genres over the years, but my current focus is on young-adult fantasy. I have always loved adventure stories, and especially those that provide an escape into worlds that the writer has created.

2. What is the latest book you have written?
I have released my first book less than a month ago. It is "A Tale of Two Brothers" It is a story set in the world of Terrezial, a broken and sand-filled world, where dangerous creatures dwell. It is one of a legend, that has long been hidden, and of the two young boys who are destined to fulfill it. It is a sweeping tale of danger, battle, pirates, and a beautiful princess. I have spent the last 8 years crafting and molding the world and its characters and am very excited to share it with the excited imaginations of the younger generation.

3. Is it part of a series, if so which one?
It is the first of nine books in the Tales of Terrezial series... Even if I sell only a few I must finish the whole story as I love telling the tale.

4. When did you start writing?
I started reading long before I could write. I would read until the late hours of the night, with a flashlight hidden by a blanket, and as soon as I awoke again in the morning. I never did like sleep much. It would take years before I would begin writing, not until I was in college, that I would begin finally putting my imagination down on paper. I wanted to write something that I would enjoy reading.

5. Why did you start writing?
Mainly because I had to finally put down my many story ideas on paper. That, and the prodding of my English teachers. They helped me see beyond my own lack of self-confidence, and encouraged me to write. They believed in me before I did.

6. Who are your influences?
I have so many. But my favorite adventure writer is Robert Louis Stevenson. Especially Treasure Island. I have read it so many times and watched every version. I also would have to say Frank Herbert, C.S. Lewis, and of course Tolkien. Lately, George R.R. Martin helped inspire my point of view for my characters.

7. What can we expect from you in the near future? Book signing events, other details
I am really new to the whole marketing/publicity associated with getting my book out to the readers. I am spending a lot of time on GoodReads, Facebook, Twitter, and further information is on my blog . I like to connect with individuals and spend a lot of time online answering questions and responding to emails. Write me and I will write you back! And if you want a signed copy of my book it can definitely be arranged. I am still getting used to that request...

Thought of the Day

At times, I come across interesting articles, photos, stories and books. Not often, but at times.
I will post them under this section, Thought of the Day.

They will be simple things like a photo, I am not trying to be a budding photographer. Lately, I have been taking photos of my surroundings and found them to give me peace, for that one moment. Especially, because I am at constant war with my finances or lack of them. This is not having a good effect on other aspects of my life. I can safely say, I am scared. Does not happen often but it has happened now!

Today, my life is like a bridge. A bridge is seen as a safety net. And it holds the key, to you getting across from one haven to another, without having to go through all the problems underneath it. I feel like I can not trust that bridge, the place I am at I need to move from, the place I could go to, is unknown, and I am more likely to fall once, on the bridge, due to my constant problems and frustrations at the moment........................

From Man to Man

1. What types of books do you write?
I write Fantasy novels, most commonly categorised as 'epic fantasy', but I refer to them as 'heroic fantasy', after the moniker attached to my writing idol, David Gemmell.

2. What is the latest book you have written?
My latest book is 'From Man to Man'. Here's the blurb:
‘I’ve traded my old enemies for just this one…’ The axe thundered home. ‘I miss the old ones.’
Every man has a past, none more so than Draven Reinhardt. Abandoning his old life to settle down as a villager, he struggles to fit in, let alone hold down a job. When opportunity offers the much needed coin, Draven is torn between a promise and a purpose.
But, what’s one last job if you’ve already got blood on your hands?
‘From Man to Man’ is the story of how one man can change – or not – for the best. Prequel to the upcoming novel ‘It Began With Ashes’, the short (6400 words) introduces the reader to a world of suspense, intrigue, and action.

BONUS MATERIAL:
Exclusive preview chapter from ‘It Began With Ashes’.

3. Is it part of a series, if so which one?
The book is an introduction to my upcoming series 'Wroge Elements'.

4. When did you start writing?
I started writing stories at the age of 11, but only seriously considered getting books published since I was 16.

5. Why did you start writing?
I started writing stories because I wanted to change the way that some of my favourite books ended - or at least add to them. After the passing of my father when I was 16, I took to writing more seriously in the hope of forging a legacy in his name.

6. Who are your influences?
Influences include David Gemmell, James Barclay, Joe Abercrombie, Mark Lawrence, Michael J Sullivan, Peter V Brett and Brent Weeks.

7. What can we expect from you in the near future? Book signing events, other details
In the future you can expect more digital ebooks, a print release of my upcoming novel 'It Began With Ashes', interviews etc.
To finish, here is an an about me:
D. E. M. Emrys. Author. Soldier by day, Soldier by night - Writer in between. Knows war to write war.
David Emrys, known as D to his friends, is a serving soldier and author. He has clearance to know more than he should, but not the sense to know better. Leaving education with no more than a fifteen year olds understanding of English Literature, D’s storytelling craft is self-taught.
Growing up with the heroic tales written by authors such as David Gemmell and James Barclay, D was inspired to write stories of his own. After joining the army D used his free time to focus on his dream of sharing shelf-space with his idols.
D testifies to the fact that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword – but swords make for better letter-openers. He lives where the army send him, but home is in Chelmsford with his girlfriend. They say that behind every great man there is a woman pulling the strings, but she lets him dance to his own song whilst being the perfect partner in step. D claims that his books would not have been written without her.
David Emrys is not his real name.
Nor is D.
